academy for humanitarian action (aha) issues first Certificate of Advanced Studies
The academy for humanitarian action (aha) has recently issued the first Certificate of Advanced Studies. The certificate was awarded to Björn Klüver, who successfully completed the CAS program in the area of “Anticipatory Humanitarian Action”. The CAS program is designed for professionals in the humanitarian field, offering them the opportunity to deepen their competencies in various key areas.
Klüver, Humanitarian Preparedness & Anticipatory Action Advisor at Plan International Germany e.V., speaks enthusiastically about his experiences: “The CAS program has proven to be an invaluable asset for my work and that of Plan International. Through participating in the individual training sessions, I was able to significantly expand my expertise and apply this knowledge directly to my work. One example of this is the development of child-friendly, inclusive and gender-responsive Anticipatory Action Frameworks for projects in the Philippines. The program enabled me to develop tailor-made solutions that address both current needs and future challenges.”
The program allows participants to choose from a variety of courses covering different aspects, such as basic concepts and mechanisms of anticipatory action, the use of geoinformation systems as well as anticipatory action in conflict settings. After successfully completing five eligible courses, participants write a final essay to conclude the program. Beside the program on “Anticipatory Action”, the aha also offers CAS-tracks in the areas of “Foundations of Humanitarian Action” and “Locally-led Humanitarian Action” (learn more).
As a founding member of the academy for humanitarian action, the IFHV regularly contributes courses to the aha’s CAS programs. Most of these courses for humanitarian practitioners are offered as part of a joint capacity sharing project run by the IFHV and VENRO and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. The project will run until December 2024 and successfully supports German humanitarian NGOs and their local partners in their efforts to implement future-oriented approaches and reforms, to drive innovation as well as to enhance sustainability and efficiency.
