IFHV hosts Training Course on “Concepts and Mechanisms of Anticipatory Humanitarian Action” in Bochum
The IFHV hosted a training course for humanitarian practitioners on “Concepts and Mechanisms of Anticipatory Humanitarian Action” from 6 to 8 November in Bochum. The workshop took place at the facilities of the Academy of the Ruhr-University Bochum and was jointly facilitated by experts from the German Red Cross, Welthungerhilfe and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre.
Over the course of three days, the 19 participants from different humanitarian NGOs received a comprehensive introduction to the basic ideas and concepts underpinning the approach of Anticipatory Humanitarian Action. Based on expert inputs, exercises and group work, the participants were guided through the different steps of developing an Anticipatory Action Framework. “I really liked the concept of the exercises being different aspects of the presentation that the participants then had to put together”, one participant emphasized.
The training was part of IFHV’s and VENRO’s joint capacity sharing project. It was advertised under the umbrella of the academy for humanitarian action (aha) and eligible for the aha’s broader certification program on Anticipatory Action. Other upcoming trainings for humanitarian practitioners that are hosted by the IFHV include courses on “Carbon-Footprinting for a Green Humanitarian Response” or “The Use of Geodata in (Anticipatory) Humanitarian Action”.
