Sustainability in migration governance: The role of the "Minimum standards for the protection of refugees in refugee accommodation"

On January 11,  2024, IFHV alumni Professor Dr. Kerstin Rosenow-Williams, Dr. Alina Bergedieck (both Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences), as well as Dr. Katharina Behmer-Prinz, Senior Researcher and Co-General Manager at the IFHV, have published a research paper at Regierungsforschung.de.

Migration policy in Germany is currently polarizing more than almost any other topic. A central point of criticism from a human rights perspective is the lack of legally binding and uniform standards for the accommodation of refugees in Germany. The lack of binding nationwide standards has far-reaching negative consequences, particularly for vulnerable groups among the refugees, such as women, children, senior citizens, the chronically ill and LGBTQ+ people.

Their research paper, titled “Nachhaltigkeit in der Migrationsgovernance” (Sustainability in migration governance), analyzes how minimum standards for the protection of refugees and migrants in refugee accommodation centers are implemented in the accommodation of refugees in Germany.
