Dr. Meis publishes on Memetic Warfare in Russo-Ukrainian Conflict
Dr. Mareike Meis, Senior Researcher at the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV), along with Dr. Eva Johais, Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) in Bergen, has published a new paper in the peer-reviewed journal Critical Studies on Security that examines memetic warfare in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, titled "‘Unleash the hounds!’: NAFO’s memetic war narrative on the Russo-Ukrainian conflict".
The paper focuses on the North Atlantic Fella Organization (NAFO) as a prime example of how internet users are increasingly participating in modern warfare through digital platforms. The study highlights how NAFO operates both in the realm of information warfare and on the real-life battlefield, playing a strategic role in the ongoing conflict.
